How to connect Myshopify with Custom domain

How to connect Myshopify with Custom domain

MyShopify subdomains are a good place for new businesses to start, but many sellers end up connecting a custom name to their MyShopify store to make it more professional and build trust. How to make the change:

Get your Own Domain name

Getting a custom name is the first thing you need to do to connect it to your store. You can do this with either Shopify's domain service or a domain service from a different company, such as GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Google Domains. It is important to pick a domain name that fits with your brand and is simple to remember.

How to connect your third - party domain to Shopify

Connect Mannually

To begin

You need to have the following information to start the process:

  • your third-party domain provider account's login information
  • the requirements of your domain provider
  • the Shopify IPv4 address 23.227.38.65
  • the Shopify IPv6 address 2620:0127:f00f:5::
  • the www CNAME record shops.myshopify.com``.

Some third-party name hosts will not accept an IPv6 address that has been condensed. In this case, you will need to use the expanded form. The larger IPv6 address for Shopify is 2620:0127:f00f:0005:0000:0000:0000:0000.

For your domain, you can only have one A record and one www CNAME record. There may already be an A record or a www CNAME record on your domain. You will need to change these to point to Shopify. Your doamin can have more than one CNAME record, but each one needs to have its own name, like "www" or "shop."

Step 1: In your account with a third-party domain provider, change your DNS records.

  1. You can log in to your account on the website of your domain provider.
  2. Look for the DNS settings or the place for managing domains.
  3. Change these records:
    1. You should point the A record to the IPv4 address 23.227.38.65 for Shopify.
    2. If you have to, change the Host name to the @ sign.
    3. If there are any other A records on the name, delete them.
    4. For Shopify, the IPv6 address is 2620:0127:f00f:5::. Point the AAAA record to that address.
    5. If you have to, change the Host name to the @ sign.
    6. If there are any other AAAA records on the domain, delete them.
    7. Do not change the name of the CNAME record that is www. Do not forget to add the period at the end of the name.
    8. Save what you've done.

When you set up DNS, you don't need to change the TTL number. Use what it says by default.

Step 2: Link your domain to Shopify

  • You can get to Settings > Domains from the Shopify menu.
  • Select "Connect to existing domain."
  • Type in your domain name, like johns-apparel.info, in the Domain field, and then click Next.
  • Just click "Connect domain."

It could be up to 48 hours before your domain is checked out. Once it has been checked, your domain will show up in the Domains part of the page with the status "Connected."

If you see the message "This domain is already connected to another Shopify store," you need to make sure you own the domain.

Connect Automatically

For those who bought their domain from GoDaddy or IONOS, Shopify will immediately connect their domain.

You will need to know how to log in to your third-party domain provider account in order to finish this step.

What to do:

  • You can get to Settings > Domains from the Shopify menu.
  • Select "Connect to existing domain."
  • Type in your domain name, like example.com, and then click "Next."
  • Click Connect automatically.
  • If you need to, log in to your GoDaddy or IONOS account.
  • After clicking Close, click Connect again.

It could be up to 48 hours before your name is checked out. Your domain will show up in the THIRD-PARTY DOMAINS part of the Domains page with the status Connected after it has been checked out.

If setting up your domain instantly doesn't work, try connecting it by hand from your account with a third-party domain provider.

Get to your Shopify Admin panel

To get to the "Online Store" part, log in to your Shopify account. After that, click "Domains" to add your new name.

It's time to point your custom name to Shopify! To do this, go to your domain registrar and change the DNS settings. There are clear steps on Shopify to help you with this, and many servers offer help with setting up DNS records.

Choose your Main domain

Once you've connected your custom domain, go to Shopify settings and make it your main name. This will make sure that all of your online store's URLs point to your custom name, and customers will be taken there if they visit your MyShopify subdomain.

Safety and SSL Certificate

For safe browsing (HTTPS), make sure that your custom name has an SSL certificate installed. All stores that use Shopify get SSL certificates for free, which encrypts transactions and user data.

Once the custom name is set up, go to the URL in your browser to test it. Check to see if everything works as it should and that there are no mistakes or broken links.

Adding a custom domain can make your store look more professional and make people more likely to believe it. Having your own domain name is a great way to build your brand and make your business look more trustworthy and established.
